Midtown West Overview
Filled with International businesses and skyscrapers, Midtown is
undoubtedly the center for New York's business and commerce. Midtown is also
Manhattan's center for shopping and tourism, hosting some of the worlds most renown
shops and landmarks. Midtown's Commercial Center has sparse residential
buildings, but as you go west, Midtown's neighborhoods become increasingly more
residential.
Hell's Kitchen (or Clinton) makes up the largest residential
area of West Midtown. Hell's Kitchen, the most Western section of Midtown, runs
from Broadway to the Hudson River between 36th & 59th Street. Don't
let the name fool you, Hell's Kitchen is a safe, convenient and very
desirable area to live. The transportation and central location is
unmatched anywhere in New York City. Ninth Avenue is busting with fashionable
bars, shops,
and restaurants and has become one of the most happening streets in Manhattan.
Residential buildings are mixed with older walk-ups and top quality new
construction. Consequently, rents can range dramatically depending on the
quality of the building and its proximity to Central Park and the Commercial
Center.
Garment District, is on Seventh Avenue south of 42nd Street.
Contrary to expectation, the Garment District is not great shopping. Like all
areas in Midtown, this area is centrally located and transportation is
excellent. The Garment District is just a few steps to Central Park, Midtown
Commercial Center, Times Square, Chelsea and the Lincoln Tunnel. Residential
housing is predominately older walk ups with some new construction mixed in.
This areas proximity to the Lincoln Tunnel makes travel to New Jersey very
convenient.
Times Square (or Theater District) runs from 53rd
to 42nd streets, between 6th and 8th Aves. Encompassed by theatres, playhouses,
cinemas, neon signs, million dollar billboard advertisements, nightclubs, hotels,
televisions that make up the top of buildings, Times Square is the theatrical center of
New York. As for housing there are sparse residential buildings in this area
that range from super luxurious to older walk-ups. As a result rents vary
greatly. |
