Ridgewood is suburban in nature, consisting of multi-family houses. Ridgewood's development like most other communities in the local area was sporadic. Ridgewood is a fairly quiet neighborhood, with the exception of Fresh Pond Road and Myrtle Ave which provide most of the commerce in the local area. Ridgewood does have a draw back and that is public transportation is limited. Most residents have a car, and the goods new is parking is not a problem.

Ridgewood  Residents & Culture
Ridgewood attracted primarily German settlers in the 1840s and 1850s. The German influence remains, with later immigrants from Italy, Yugoslavia, and Central and South America adding to the mix. Fresh Pond Road is a prime example of Ridgewood's history as it possess large amount of Polish and Italian Bakeries.

Ridgewood residences consists of multi-family houses. There are rarely any cooperatives or condominiums in Ridgewood. General rents in the area range from studio's starting at $650-$1050, one bedrooms from $900-$1200, two bedrooms from $1100-$1500, three bedrooms or town homes from $1495-$2400

Ridgewood  Transportation & Commuting
In Ridgewood you can catch the New York City Subway's "M" train at Fresh Pond Station. The "M" can have you in downtown in 35 minutes and midtown in 50 minutes. There is also transportation by bus which stops at Fresh Pond Road and Catalpa Avenue. (Bus QM24W) From Ridgewood on the QM24W you can be in Midtown Manhattan in 50 minutes barring any major traffic delays.
